The Energy Performance in Building Directive (EPBD) has been implemented in the UK to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
In order to comply with the EPBD, Commercial properties require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). This is required by the Government for every business premise rented or sold in the UK. It provides a rating of a buildings energy performance and efficiency.
A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) is required for all public buildings in the UK. This shows the actual energy consumption of a building and the operational rating. It needs to be displayed in a prominent place for the public to see.
Non compliance can result in heavy fines, enforceable by Trading Standards.
